Harbour Plaza Resort City Review

There are three or four Harbour Plaza Hotels in Hong Kong, if I'm not mistaken.

Accessibility

The Harbour Plaza Resort City is located in the Tin Shui Wai District, in the Northern territories, very near China. The hotel is an hour's drive away from the airport and can be reached via bus or the MTR (though expect to disembark a lot of time). They offer airport transfers though if you've booked through a third party site, expect to pay for the airport transfer. There are taxis in the area too. I have to say that it is not quite as accessible especially if you'll be doing a lot of visits in the Hong Kong Island and Lantau Island. You'll be wasting most of your time traveling.

Facilities

The Harbour Plaza Resort City is a four star hotel. It is fairly new so the facilities are clean. They have an internet station at tower two though you probably could use it for free if you ask the security guard nice enough and if it's the middle of the night. They have WiFi access but it's not free. The staff are pretty friendly and understands English pretty well though the locals are not so keen. I've experienced one or two people running away from me when I try to ask for directions. Maybe it's because they're nearer the mainland so the locals are not so fluent in English.

Overall Impression

If you're staying a while in Hong Kong and time is not of the essence to you, then you can probably afford the one hour ride to the city. The view while traveling is good, though. Facilities are great, they are a four star hotel after all. However, if your time is limited, better get a cheaper hostel in the city or a more expensive one.

Ha haa! Just imagining people running away from you as you try to ask directions ... especially when they are at work! I'd imagine thy would have at least one member of staff who is reasonably fluent in English - it is Hong Kong, after all, and was ruled by the British until only recently. I remember the handover, and I'm a spring chicken ! Sounds like more of a business hotel, for people that have appointments in the Tin Shui Wai district, I wouldn’t see the point of hopping on a train for an hour to get anywhere either .
